Sparkling, inspired, Juventus Turin dropped Manchester United at Old Trafford on Tuesday (1-0), to continue its no-fault lead Group H.
Who will stop Juventus Turin this season ? At Old Trafford this Tuesday, the Turin, undefeated, did not only drop Manchester United after a superb game (1-0): they sent a message to all Europe. At the head of Group H with one out of three, The Old Lady flies towards the 8th, and affirms a little more her ambition of sacre.
After the first ten minutes to the advantage of Manchester, despite having arrived in difficult conditions at the stadium, Juventus set off, with fearsome offensive swings. The climbs of Sandro and Cancelo quickly surpassed the Mancunian defense, completely stunned. Still sublime (see elsewhere), Paulo Dybala opened the scoring with opportunism (17th) and Juve gained confidence. There were more and more opportunities in Italy, and in Allegri’s multi-faceted scheme, the attackers could no longer be clearly distinguished from The Defenders. Deprived of the ball as rarely (nearly 70% possession for Juve at the break), MU made the back round. Without a great De Gea (see elsewhere), the team of José Mourinho could have quickly sunk.
More consistent in the second half, certainly put together by José Mourinho, Manchester finished better than Juve. Among other things, Paul Pogba hit the right post on a left hit on which Szczesny was beaten (75′). Allegri secured his defense with the entrance of Barzagli (81′), and the Turinese, after their offensive demonstration, showed their solidity.
The player: Dybala steals the star from Ronaldo
We were expecting a lot from the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford. The Portuguese was brilliant, very combative, but was robbed by Paulo Dybala. The author of a triplet against the Young Boys Berne on the second day, La Joya was again twirling, exploiting every space left by the Smalling-Lindelöf axis. He opened the scoring in renard on the home side of Ronaldo, to bring his total to 4 goals this season in C1 in two matches, tying his record of 2016/2017 (in 11 matches). But his performance did not end there. The Argentinean hurt a lot with his percussions and his rhythm changes. It is the Turin that has tried the most shots (3) and has also delivered 3 centers. He came close to the double of a near-coiled shot (43′). Less conspicuous after the break, less focused, he left the infuriated field in the 78th minute.
The fact: De Gea was hot
Without David de Gea, Manchester United would certainly have left Old Trafford with a big bump. The Spanish goalkeeper was superb at keeping his team alive. He first dramatically deflected a heavy shot from Cancelo (22′) and then went on to a huge double parade before the break, an overpowering free-kick from Ronaldo and a vicious mashed-up from Matuidi (38′). In one big night, he made another flight on a pure strike from Ronaldo (52′).
