Admittedly, the Belgians won their first match of the World Cup on a wide score (3-0). But they have long played “like klettes” (as they say) against the Panamanians. It took a great inspiration from Dries Mertens to unblock the game (47′). Against the Tunisians on Saturday in Moscow, Eden Hazard’s teammates showed a completely different face. Romelu Lukaku had his top speed from the first minutes, Thomas Meunier tried the first shot from the third and Eden Hazard opened the scoring at the 6th, on a penalty validated by the VAR (the fault of Ben Youssef was committed on the surface line).

With their ability to project themselves very quickly to the front, The Belgians have multiplied the opportunities, well helped by Tunisians particularly generous in the mistakes of recovery. In a single half, left back Ali Maaloul lost ten balls… A new shot from Hazard (13′), one from Carrasco (15′), and then Romelu Lukaku doubled the bet (16′), after too long a check… Maaloul. Dylan Bronn gave hope to the Tunisians by narrowing the gap (18′), before injuring himself four minutes later on the left knee against a ball (22′). Syam Ben Youssef also stepped out on a stretcher, injuring himself on the right knee (40th).

Tunisia, with its 50% revised defence, did its best in the face of Belgian attacks. But she gave in a third time before half time : Romelu Lukaku scored his second Double (45 ‘ +3).

She conceded a fourth goal in the 51st minute, Eden Hazard also playing a double. With this advantage, Roberto Martinez was able to get his scorers out : Lukaku (59′) and Hazard (68′). They will be fresh for the rest of the tournament : Belgium has almost assured its qualification for the round of 16. Michy Batshuayi attended the party. After missing four big chances, he managed to score (90’). Wahbi Khazri, certainly the best Tunisian on the pitch, was rewarded with a goal in the final seconds (90 ‘ +3).

Eden Hazard, first goals at the worlds

After six matches and as many unsuccessful attempts, Eden Hazard finally scored in the World Cup. The Belgian captain scored his first two goals in the competition: he converted two of his four shots, after not converting any of his first eleven. A decisive passer against Panama, Hazard opened the scoring before offering himself a double on an opening shot by Alderweireld. He also tormented the Eagles of Carthage with his accelerations, his inspirations and his deviations. The grand Hazard.

Tunisia is also eliminated

After Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Morocco, it is Tunisia’s turn to be eliminated in its second match in the competition. “The Arab teams will create a surprise,” Saudi legend Sami Al-Jabber assured us. They proved him wrong: they lost all eight matches they played.
